New Report Offers No High-Def Hope

Predicts a dual-format market for the future.Screen Digest video analyst Richard Cooper concludes, "Christmas 2007 is going to be critical for the hi-def video business…but with so much at stake on both sides we think it is highly unlikely that one format will emerge as the 'winner.' Once it becomes clear that both formats are gaining customer acceptance, studios that have chosen to support one format over the other will realize that they are missing out on potential sales and will have to decide how long they can afford to place principle over profit. We believe that eventually most will decide to offer their titles on both HD DVD and Blu-ray in order to maximize their returns."
I need a Blu-ray player.

I still don't understand your fascination with Blu-ray. It will be dead in 2 years, I guarantee. Posted by: ryan at September 20, 2007 10:14 AM |

What is blu-ray? Does it make my tv talk? Posted by: arunav at September 20, 2007 12:06 PM |

I'm thinking PS3. This article predicts there will be a dual format market for at least the next 3 years. I think the blu-ray format is more advanced than hd-dvd, it just sucks because it is so proprietary. I also have the feeling that I would have less problems running 1080p from a sony player to my tv versus something else (my tv is a sony). And if the format does end up failing, at least I would have a failed video game system as a consolation prize. Posted by: polamex at September 20, 2007 5:11 PM |
