Sam Brownback Defends his Evolution Position

Why not kick off the election season right on disjointed by mixing a little politics and religion. Quite a few people I know sent me an email after 3 republicans raised their hand during the debate when asked the question, "Who here does not believe in evolution?"
At first I thought to myself, "damn, who doesn't believe in evolution?" But as Sen. Sam Brownback explains in his guest editorial for the New York Times, the question is a loaded one and a simple yes or no can be misleading.
The premise behind the question seems to be that if one does not unhesitatingly assert belief in evolution, then one must necessarily believe that God created the world and everything in it in six 24-hour days. But limiting this question to a stark choice between evolution and creationism does a disservice to the complexity of the interaction between science, faith and reason.
