When I was a kid we had 9 planets!

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) -- Leading astronomers declared Thursday that Pluto is no longer a planet under historic new guidelines that downsize the solar system from nine planets to eight.

After a tumultuous week of clashing over the essence of the cosmos, the International Astronomical Union stripped Pluto of the planetary status it has held since its discovery in 1930. The new definition of what is -- and isn't -- a planet fills a centuries-old black hole for scientists who have labored since Copernicus without one.

I thought they had voted for the 12 instead of 8. Oh well. At least they are bein consistent.

No, that was the debate though. If Pluto were to remain a planet, then 3 other bodies had to be accepted as planets. Instead they went in the other direction.

12 would have been so much more interesting. Now we all have to forget a planet. Yeah, that will make us smarter.

Well like the article says, it creates a new class of sub planets (dwarf planets) which is cool. Plus if you read the qualifications of what makes a planet, it makes sense.
