Kansas, Intelligently Designed..?

TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) -- At the risk of re-igniting the same heated nationwide debate it sparked six years ago, the Kansas Board of Education approved new public school science standards Tuesday that cast doubt on the theory of evolution. The 6-4 vote was a victory for "intelligent design" advocates who helped draft the standards. Intelligent design holds that the universe is so complex that it must have been created by a higher power.
Dear Kansas,
Even the Vatican sides with Darwin.

This kind of thing makes me want to scratch my eyeballs out. "I dunno...God did it!" That sounds like great science to me! Posted by: Emily at November 8, 2005 10:44 PM |

I find this part to be the worst: "Among the most controversial changes was a redefinition of science itself so that it is not explicitly limited to natural explanations" from the NY Times So in Kansas, science is not science, its any crazy idea people choose to believe. If I stopped believing in gravity I guess all of Kansas would fly off the earth. I totally agree that kids in school should be taught to question theories. How about challenging the whole "drugs are bad for you" mantra? How about challenging religion? Its kind of ironic how a segment of the population that seldom challenges what their pastor tells them is pushing their agenda under the guise of critical thinking. Hopefully they will demonstrate "intelligent design" with the flying spagetti monster Posted by: gizmo at November 9, 2005 1:33 PM |
