WOW.
At first I wasn't sure about this design, but the more I think about it the more excited I get.

First time I saw the controller I thought to myself, "lame.." Then I finally read about the controller and got excited at the prospect of a videogame system whose advancements go beyond just pushing out more polygons per second. I'm glad to see Nintendo trying to get out there and innovate rather than replicate. (I have INXS in my head now...) Posted by: ryan at September 20, 2005 9:44 PM |

"incredibly responsive to even slight wrist movements-I barely had to move my hand at all." Hmm, from my experience this means that this controller would be very difficult for me to learn. I've found that the more sensitive analog controls are, the more likely I am to do things like accidentally run off cliffs or set myself on fire somehow. I try to use the digital pad when I can get away with it. And my arm movements tend to correlate more closely to how excited I am instead of to what I'm actually trying to do in the game. So I've always kind of relied on the fact that actually moving the contoller around in space doesn't have any effect. Although if the games are designed around the concept of the controller moving through space, that might make it easier to learn. But most importantly, it looks like they will come in pretty colors. Now that you mention it, that's probably part of how the idea actually came about. So many of us grew up throwing the NES controller around as if it would make Mario jump higher or farther, why not have the controller actually work that way? Posted by: Ben at September 21, 2005 2:34 PM |

Two most important differences about this controller are... 1 its different Sony and MS are going head to head. People will be unlikely to buy both a ps and an xbox and a gaming PC. They have huge overlap in the software titles they play. ps and xbox are very similar machines, and they will be forced to compete on price and marketing. yuk Nintendo doesn't want to get involved. They want to offer interactive entertainment that is enjoyable by everyone and only available on their platform. People will be more likely to buy a nintendo as well as an xbox or ps. This shocking departure in controller design will force a departure in game design that will create or maintain a niche for nintendo. 2 its the same as game get crappier and crappier the classics are becoming more important. this new controller looks like it will feal the same as their old controller when you turn it on its side. Nintendo can ship tons of classic games with this platform and increase its value.
