iPod Nano and Rokr

You can never keep up with these things.. Months after I buy an iPod mini, Apple announces the iPod nano. It looks like the nano is replacing the mini. Quick specs: 2 & 4GB models, 1/4 inch thick, 1.5 ounces, 1.5 inch color screen, touch wheel.
In a similar announcement, the Apple + Motorola + Cingular collaboration has resulted in the iTunes Rokr. I'm a little disappointed in the design. I don't think they had Apple's engineers working on this one, note the lack of Apple branding on the phone.

Why can't they keep making them more affordable, instead of smaller? All these new designs every six months are just a way to keep profits up. I would rather buy an older design at a price I can afford. Posted by: karen at September 7, 2005 6:48 PM |

Hmm. That argument could be applied to just about anything, especially when it comes to consumer electronics. Yes, new designs help keep profits up. I have to imagine that Apple is interested in keeping profits up. As for buying and older design at a price you can afford, that is what eBay is for. Posted by: ryan at September 7, 2005 7:49 PM |

Yeah, I know. I just got frustrated because I don't think they've really improved anything there. They just made it smaller. And I tend to get peeved by the attitude in consumer electronic design that small is always better. And fuck eBay. That's right! Fuck eBay right in the ear. God, I'm cranky today. I broke down and bought the nano. After seeing it in person I couldn't resist. It is so damn nice. It is hard to comprehend how small and light it is until you actually hold it. The color screen is so sharp too! iPod Mini, say hello to eBay. Posted by: ryan at September 25, 2005 1:27 AM |
