Being poor in America is one thing, being poor and black is a completely different thing.

There is no doubt in my mind that the response would have been quicker if we were seeing tens of thousands of white people stranded without food and water on the news, regardless of their economic status.

Hugh, I usually agree with what you basically mean when it comes to giving aid, in that it shouldn't be based on race but on socio-economic class (not all blacks are poor, not all blacks are even American). But when it comes to certain people's emotions and views and prejudices I think it is largely race-based.
