Arrested for Virtual Mugging

A man has been arrested in Japan on suspicion carrying out a virtual mugging spree by using software "bots" to beat up and rob characters in the online computer game Lineage II. The stolen virtual possessions were then exchanged for real cash.

I don't know how I feel about this. If the guy had not used a bot and just mugged characters in the game the... old fashioned way... would it still be a crime? I don't know much about Lineage II, but if the ability to mug and be mugged is part of the game, what crime is he really commiting? Sure, he is a cheater... but a criminal?
