Need today's weather forecast for LA? David Lynch will give it to you. He is supposedly doing this every day. Weirdo.

Sometimes I wonder if Lynch is actually that strange or just very concious of his image. I saw one of his 'weather' videos the other day and it was just a weird looking puppet sitting speechless infront of a small tv for one and half minutes. What the hell is that? How can he possibly think he is conveying some deep, meaningful message? Posted by: jt at June 1, 2005 10:41 PM |

There are a few Lynch films I enjoy, but I think you are right for the most part: he is weird for the sake of being weird. That is his image and he works hard to maintain it. Posted by: ryan at June 2, 2005 11:43 AM |

Well, Dune is pretty straight up conventional science fiction. The unconventional things that Frank Herbert wrote in the novel (about the perception of reality and divining the future through something strongly resembling an acid trip) are not easily translated to film. Lynch didn't conceive the story of Dune and the original stories of his films are generally quite unconventional. Or maybe Lost Highway is just yet another retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Tale as old as time, right? On the other hand I sure as hell don't need to see him give a weather report. Don't give me your fucking daily report. Make a movie that creeps me out. That's your job, asshole. Posted by: karen at June 2, 2005 1:02 PM |

I think he's just excercising his freedom as an artist, doing these weird things because he can. There doesn't have to be any meaning. Either it appeals to you or it doesn't. Posted by: polamex at June 3, 2005 8:43 PM |
