Interactive Tiles

Sony has developed a set of interactive tiles that can work together when placed next to each other. Each tile (about the size of a drink coaster) is a separate program that becomes activated when the tile is placed on the table. The tiles also function as the screen and input device for the program. When two or more tiles are placed next to eachother they become linked: data can be exchanged, tools from one tile can be used to control another tile, etc...

The movie in the link is fairly large (in size), but worth the wait. Very cool technology.

It's a cool effect but I think the secret is in the table. Maybe each tile just has some sort of sensor in it to trigger what program comes up on the LCD table perhaps?

Yeah, I think yer right about the table being the actual screen. It looks like the tiles that can be used as input have "wires" in them or something else that the pen can detect or manipulate. Probably magnetized I guess.
