Where's the outrage, America?

Prisoners are being killed by officials without proper medical knowledge and researchers are finding that the dead inmates bodies have less anaesthetics than they probably need to not be conscious during their execution and thus suffer suffocation and excruciating pain. The article goes on to quote that we have higher standards when executing pets. If we're going to continue killing people in this country shouldn't we figure out a way to do it painlessly?

I don't believe in the death penalty simply because I don't consider it an effective tool in preventing crime. It might be wrong, it might be right…but that’s for society as a whole to decide because the answer isn't in the logical domain. I do think that the more quietly and painlessly you kill people who commit crimes the less effective killing people is as a deterrent. Posted by: dan at April 14, 2005 10:20 PM |

We don't kill peopl for the same reason we kill pets. We kill people so the victims and their families feel better--justified. I'd be pissed if the man who raped my sister got the same peaceful rest that my beloved dog did. Good job America! Posted by: John G at April 15, 2005 8:10 PM |

right on! because causing someone to suffer tremendously will really heal your sisters wounds, and yours as well. excuse me while i go find an iraqi insurgent to kick in the head. Posted by: gizmo at April 19, 2005 12:16 PM |

Oh sorry, all my outrage has been funneled towards something I read the other day about Mariah Carey's new album being a huge hit. Guh. Posted by: karen at April 19, 2005 2:04 PM |
