Media coverage distorts reality in Iraq

A letter from LTC Tim Ryan to World Tribune. It's lengthy, but worth your time. Give it a read will ya.

I admit it was a good read and it gives me hope that there is plenty of good happening in Iraq. I certainly believe we have to see this war through now that it has begun. No story from Iraq is going to be without its spin and no two stories about the same event will ever be the same depending on who is telling the story. The media spins, LTC Tim Ryan spins, and so on... I think it is important to be critical of our actions during the war. It plays an important job in showing the world that as Americans fighting this war, we are fighting for things we believe are right and are critical of events that we feel are failing those beliefs. "I think it is important to be critical of our actions during the war. It plays an important job in showing the world that as Americans fighting this war, we are fighting for things we believe are right and are critical of events that we feel are failing those beliefs." I think this is incredibly well said, Ryan. Unfortunately, most of the left's criticism (and I'm not necessarily including you) is not constructive and centered on that purpose...it's solely and rabidly politically motivated. The motivation of the criticism (and legitimacy of it)is important. Great letter...it just reinforces what most should already be aware of. The evidence, via firsthand accounts, of the general unbalanced picture coming out of Iraq is overwhelming. I've even talked to a couple of journalists who have been there who back up the "soldier stories" like this as opposed to the "everything is blowing up all the time" kind of image we often get from the media. Of course, they are both from Fox News, so I guess that automatically makes them lying tools of the Bush Administration...LOL. Posted by: Dude at January 21, 2005 11:58 AM |

Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered. Yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict the more glorious the triumph. Posted by: jt at January 22, 2005 1:31 AM |
