America's Most Dangerous Cities

Camden, NJ overtook Detroit this year to become the most dangerous city in the US based on per-capita crime statistics.
For cities with a population of 500,000 or more, Detroit tops the list with Philadelphia coming in at #6 and Columbus at #7. Yeah that's right, Columbus.
On a side note, New York City didn't even make the top 25.

Columbus.... oooo that's 7 out of 32. That's the 78th percentile. I'm running out for an alarm system right now. Posted by: John G at December 1, 2004 7:25 PM |

Hahahaha. You don't live in UA! UA is a little South, a little West, and a lot less ghetto from where you live. ; ) Posted by: ryan at December 2, 2004 1:27 AM |

Detroit actually had already been overtaken as #1 two years ago then I guess was able to take back the national championship. Then lost it again.. to fucking Camden. Surrounding the city of Detroit are four of the top 25 safest suburbs, although I'm sure most of the rest of its suburbs are all along the continuum of safe to dangerous, with a lot of poverty and therefore crime moving out of the central city over the years (taken together as a region, Metro Detroit is still #1). I believe Detroit still maintains the "fattest city" spot. Also, conspicuously missing from this list is Flint, MI, which used to be the #1 most dangerous city by at least some measures but isn't even in the top 25 here? What happened? Also, anyone notice that all 4 of Ohio's largest cities (i.e. Columbus, Cleveland, Cinci, and Dayton, but not Toledo or Akron) are in the top 25 overall most dangerous or top 10 most dangerous large cities? I say that's something to be proud of. Out of all those top dangerous cities, which one do people say they are scared of going to? Atlanta? St. Louis when it was #1? The nation's capital? All I know is that for the places worth going to in Detroit from an outsider's point of view it's a fairly benign place. Then again, I lived in Columbus. Huh, I guess you're right, I always thought it was technically UA. Isn't like a block south of kenny & henderson UA? Any idea on what they mean by dangerous? Violent crimes? Murders? Domestic violence? I didn't find any explanation on the site... Posted by: polamex at December 2, 2004 6:07 PM |

I would say Upper Arlington is bounded by Henderson in the North and 5th Ave in the South, Riverside in the West and Kenny in the East. Yer just on the wrong side of the road ; ) Posted by: ryan at December 2, 2004 8:17 PM |

Doh! Well then let's say I live in the ass crack of UA, where all the rich guys go to buy hookers and coke. :) Posted by: polamex at December 2, 2004 10:19 PM |
