Rock Paper Scissors

Until I read this article in citypaper, I had no idea that there was a such thing as professional rock paper scissors players. There is even a book about it.

CP: How do you answer people who say that rock paper scissors is just a game of chance?

SR: It's about recognizing patterns and trying to counter those patterns. … The way society looks at it, people say it's random. But people are incapable of being purely random. There's always some kind of strategy, even if they're trying to force randomness.

Man, I wanted to go to the RPS tournament in Toronto last year. Looks like I missed this year's as well.

Were you going to compete?

Heh, maybe just for fun. I don't quite have the complex psychological strategy down.

I actually witnessed a rock-paper-scissors tournament just a week ago at a local bar. They had a team from one bar and a team from another bar...and the winner got $100. It was so bizarre to watch. Must be a developing trend!
