Michael Moore at Temple University

Despite my wearying support for Michael Moore, I decided to go see him speak last night at Temple University. All in all it was a good night, I am glad I attended. I got the impression that Moore is getting a bit worn out from his tour though, and could have put on a better performance.

I was dissapointed with the turnout at the event. Temple is in downtown Philadelphia where we have 3 large universities (Temple, Drexel and UPenn) all within 2 miles. However, I didn't hear anything about Moore coming to Temple until yesterday afternoon. I had to find out by word of mouth the day of the event, and I am a student at Temple! The event did not even appear in Temple's daily digest of goings on.

The most interesting part of the night in my opinion, was film of interviews with the people of Iraq in the weeks leading to the war. The general consensus in the interviews was that the people of Iraq would fight the Americans, not out of support for Saddam, but out of protection of their children, families, and communities.

Some of the most entertaining moments of the night happened outside where Bush and Kerry supporters clashed in a frenzy of homemade signs. My favorite were the two people dressed like flip-flops.

The flip flops are hilarious!

Moore kicked off this tour in Ann Arbor with a bang and a cold, managing to fill the almost 4000 seats at the Hill Auditorium... with both supporters and a Bush contingent in one section, out of the crowd of Republican protesters outside. Buzz for this event was high, I have to say. Tickets went on sale at 9:00am and when I went to purchase at 10, the line was approximately a mile long. I decided to come back a few hours later when I only had to wait my whole lunch break to get my five dollar tickets.
Whether you love or hate him, it was an incredibly fun and entertaining five dollar event.

Yeah, there wasn't nearly as much buzz about it here. I went and bought my tickets 5 minutes before the event without standing in any line.
