Sponsor a Bus Rider

Here's a random thought: out of all those who, despite driving along a well functioning bus line, choose to commute by car how many would give up a few dollars to get someone else's car out of your way? Too many people fight public transportation systems and refuse to give up any tax money to fund them but there must be those who would be willing to pay for someone else's monthly bus fare in order to make their own commute just slightly faster. Especially if you could choose only to sponsor someone who was commuting mostly on the same route.

Interesting idea, but I think it would only prove effective if there was a considerable number of people involved in this kind of system. Might be difficult to ramp this kind of thing up because the investment at the beginning would not pay off so well, not until many others were involved.

I'm gonna have to go with... yeah you're probably right. Maybe one way it would be feasible is if you could get a bunch of people to pledge to do this (several thousand) who are all along a very busy corridor, with perhaps a pledge from the bus company to increase or improve service is that many people are able to be turned into bus riders. In this scenario nobody would have to pay a dime until there were enough people involved that it would make at least some impact.
