Opinion

I just watched Kill Bill Vol. 2 again and I wanted everyones opinion. Personally I think both 1 and 2 should be viewed as one movie, but if I had to choose I would say 2 is better. The dialogue and characters are more 'Tarantino-esque'. However, I would like to know what you guys think. Which is better and why?

Volume 1 was good because it wasn't 'Tarantino-esque'. The dialouge sucked in the ladder film, and quite frankly it didn't live up to my expectations after the first one.

I have to go with volume I as well. You took the words out of my mouth with the "because it wasn't 'Tarantino-esque'" comment, I couldn't agree more.

I felt like volume I was a bit more daring and a bit more creative as well.

I didn't enjoy either of them so much. Tarantino claims to be a great dialogue-writer, but in both movies there was a constant lack of decent dialogs.

Vol 1 is a fair modern movie, very visual. Vol 2 wants to rely on a more talkative approach, but there is nothing really happening there, empty words and a far too long movie considering the story, which could be explained in 90' as well.

just an opinion! :)

That's hilarious! I was just about to do this same type of post for Mulholland Dr. But let's wait till some more people on here see it (JT included).

ANYWAY, the second one is better I think. It has the best action scene of the 2, and I just got more out of it in general.

It's not because I'm a blind Tarantino fan either. I was horribly disappointed by Jackie Brown and got nothing out of it at all.

I queued up Mulholland Drive in netflix. Every girl we've asked does not like the movie and every guy does. Also, every guy ends their opinion of the movie with, "there are hot girls in it."

I am a girl. I like Mulholland Drive.

I wish QT had sucked it up, done some fucking editing and made one movie. I don't think you can split a revenge flick like that. Momentum is crucial to revenge.

That said, I don't prefer either volume.

Amy liked Mulholland Dr., but she gave up on it after 4 viewings.

I like I way more than II. I agree with Karen in that momentum was lost. Also, how could The Bride kicked ass all the way through the first movie and just caught buy some guy in a trailer?

There were somethings that I really liked about Mulholland Dr. Namely that Naomi Watts was incredible and through 80% of the movie, David Lynch totally controlled my emotions. However, I felt that it fell apart at the end. It was like the movie just built and built and then there was nothing.

So is Mulholland Dr. the kind of movie that you need to do research on it after you've seen it then watch it again to understand it? I hate that. I like an intelligent film, but not when it gets to the point where you have to take a class to understand the film. For that same reason I will never read Ulysses.

At least watch it once for the ride.

If your curiosity is peaked after the first viewing, I'll tell you what's up. Then if you watch it knowing what's up, it becomes a brilliant movie.

And hey, I think it's fun to interpret a movie that isn't spoon fed to you. That's rare for a national release (albeit a box office flop).

I can dig a movie that is better upon the second viewing. It was the "gave up after 4 viewings" that gave me the impression it was a hopeless cause.

when i saw it in the movies, i fell asleep during the last part. i got the main gist of it, though...buuut...(and i've already said this)...i don't think it takes knowing references or whatever to enjoy a movie the first time around. if mulholland drive is supposed to get us by "emotion", then it did a poor job with me at least. i should be able to enjoy a movie, regardless of underlying meaning. anyway...i was disappointed with it. a second viewing might make more sense to me...but. i think it would have been more interesting if it were made into the tv show like it was intended to be. i knew it was supposed to be a tv show going into the theater to see it, so when i saw the last part of the movie, i kind of felt like it was tacked on or whatnot. i don't know. i didn't feel it.

I finally saw Mulholland dr. yesterday. Not particularly impressed. It was way better than Lost Highway, but it still has that Lynch-like 'ha ha, I'm sooooo smart' quality. You could dissect that movie forever and never get anywhere, which basically makes it a waste of time. I didn't hate it, I was entertained, but I don't think it was Lynch's best effort. I just got the feeling that even Lynch was confused. But maybe I just don't get it.

As far as Kill Bill vol. 2 goes, I agree with Polamex. Best fighting and dialogue. I see Tarantino's movies because he is Tarantino, not in spight of it. You know what your gonna get, but these are just my opinions. I know people who either love him or hate him, just like David Lynch.

I dissected it pretty hard and did get somewhere. But now that I'm there and know what's up, some of the magic is gone. I'm just a Lynch fan I guess.
