And it can't even be used for DJing.

I like how the motor is housed separately from the platter and arm. I think I could build it myself for a shitload less than $15,000 though.

For that price you better get a blowjob while you listen.

thats nothing. some people think it is common place to spend 30k. Others modify their houses to have a solid column of concrete to place their turn table on so that they can avoid vibrations. Many audiophiles would concider that turntable 'junk' i am sure.

Those people are idiots.

Posted by: ryan at August 5, 2004 3:39 PM

Can that turntable take you back in time too?

Posted by: ryan at August 5, 2004 3:44 PM

Christ, just hire a band.

Posted by: polamex at August 5, 2004 6:31 PM

the bands are old and dead. vinal is immortal.

That's true, I guess I was thinking about cover bands, but that's not quite the same. There have to be better ways to spend your money on music. Like $600 power cables.

Or a hooker. I could get 500 hookers for that price and they would give me more pleasure for a longer period of time. Give it up for cheap hookers!

lol, you think THAT's expensive? Obviously you haven't kept tabs on audiophile insanity:

http://www.stereophile.com/analogsourcereviews/258/

That's a turntable that costs just under $75,000.

Heck, look at insane audiophile stylii and you'll find they can go for over $10,000 easily. Don't believe me? Check http://www.goodwinshighend.com/phono.htm there you'll see such wonders as "Clearaudio Insider Reference Wood Moving Coil Cartridge. $13,000."

I know what you're thinking - why would anyone pay that much money? I mean, I used to think that people were insane for shelling out thousands to a tens of thousands for the elp laser turntables (spendiest model is $13,000) seen here http://www.elpj.com/ But hey, those actually make sense technologically - would be great for a library archival purpose to read really damaged antiques.

NooooOo home made turntables with ridiculuous prices are obviously better! So, for these people who spend nearly can spend probably in excess of $100,000 on a sound system I wonder how good it sounds. Let's see:

"The Sirius III's overall presentation of the music was so much bigger, more focused, solid, three-dimensional, surefooted, dynamic, and seamless than anything else I've ever heard, that I lost my footing. Literally. I was floored! I had to sit down and cool off."

INCREDIBLE THREE DIMENSIONAL sound.

I'm impressed, I wonder what part of the $75,000 takes two channel stereo recordings and makes them 3D.

I will say that people who own 7.1 surround sound systems for a fraction of the price, probably do lack the imagination of these idiots, but then they probably lack the wallets as well, darn I am so ashamed I'm not stupid^H^H^H^H^H^H rich enough to be a true audiophile.

I love how the laser turntable folk are so quick to contradict themselves:

"the LT performs high quality sound reproduction even on vinyl that has been worn by a needle. The Laser can also read below the depth of surface scratches, which improves playback."

one paragraph later...

"if the quality of the recording or vinyl itself is poor, the LT can unfortunately do very little to improve or change the sound."
