Chinatown Bus Turf Wars

Taking a Chinatown bus is a popular way to get from one East Coast city to another these days. With many Chinatown bus companies connecting Boston, New York, Philadelphia and DC, competition is getting cut-throat. Literally. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer these companies are in the midst of turf wars that have lead to two killings and a couple cases of arson.
More recently, Greyhound and Peter Pan have entered the mix in Boston by trying to bully Chinatown bus companies (whose fares are less than half of Greyhound and Peter Pan) through less violent means. The City of Boston has issued $11,000 in tickets to Fung Wah since March. State regulators, prodded by the deep-pocketed competitors, are turning up the heat. Those competitors, Peter Pan and Greyhound, have sued Fung Wah. And its insurer, Hanover Insurance, has moved to cancel its insurance.

Old stories about the turf war. I took a trip to New York from ApexBus http://www.apexbus.com. Everything is so smooth and price is quite right. $20 one way. Not like Greyhound's ridiculous price. THIS IS AMERICA, FREEDOM COUNTRY, WE NEED COMPETITION. FAIR PLAY! Posted by: Kevin at June 29, 2004 1:39 PM |

Yeah, that article was from last year. Where were you coming from, Boston? In Philadelphia we only have 2 options, Century 2000 and Today Bus or something like that, and I hear Today Bus kind of sucks. Posted by: ryan at June 29, 2004 1:41 PM |
