Talk about a massive "dump"

Posted by Dude at 03:23 PM in news . | 2 Comments

MMSD stands for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. They have a "deep tunnel" That carries the city sewage into the seepage beds, however when there is alot of rain...there is some run-off into lake Michigan. This is usually not significant and doesn't interfere with the drinking water supply since that is taken from below the surface and treated for bacteria. HOWEVER...this unusually large "dump" if you will has raised questions, as only one of the city's 4 large pumps was operating properly before the "dump". It's turned into a huge scandal and with a saturated sewer system and another 4 days of rain on the way, conservative Milwaukee radio commentator Charlie Sykes has given MMSD a new slogan "from your butt to our lake".

Check out the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Story .

Holy Shit! (pun intended) 1.5 Billion Gallons of raw sewage! Lets put this into perspective:

1.5B Gallons = 200M cubic feet

The Sears Tower in Chicago is about 70M cubic feet

So basically, a turd 3 times the size of the Sears Tower was dumped into Lake Michigan.

Have fun swimming this summer.

Ewww...

Just consider it our gift to Chicago. Payback for all of the toll roads I have to drive on when I go to Michigan I guess.
