Quik House

Awhile ago I had started collecting links for prefab housing stuff like the Loft Cube and LOT/EK. Quik House was another one that I was planning on posting all together but, as usual, forgot to. The advantage of Quik House is that it can be built real quick. At $76k it's not real cheap, so it's not the best solution for, say, a quik refugee camp. I wonder how many you can stack on top of each other because the ability to easily increase density where land is scarce is what I like about these boxes. However, it does look like it's possible to do some rooftop gardening.

Very interesting; the idea doesn't seem to be a new one. Thomas Edison invented a method of making cheap houses out of concrete about a hundred years ago. It never amounted to anything (obviously). Posted by: polamex at May 9, 2004 7:35 PM |

I want to see a photo of one of these joints. Estimated total cost of $150-$175k.. not too cheap! Posted by: ryan at May 10, 2004 12:03 AM |

Heh you said joints. Also, don't we still make buildings out of poured concrete? Posted by: agent1073 at May 10, 2004 4:30 AM |

Yeah that's true, we still make buildings out of poured concrete, but there isn't the mass produced house molds that Edison envisioned. Like buy a mold, pour concrete through the top, let it harden, and then boom - a house. Posted by: polamex at May 10, 2004 10:00 AM |
