Pretty Things From the A2F2

One of the funniest things at the 42nd annual Ann Arbor Film Festival last week was a bunch of short skits made for cable access tv called Pretty Things, some of which you can watch here and here. Unfortunately, the Popcorn episode isn't up there for viewing.

While the good stuff was in the minority of what I was able to catch, I did also really enjoy Jonathan Caoette's ultra-inexpensive Tarnation, Shari Frilot's Strange and Charmed (featuring 4Hero and other broken beat artists on the soundtrack), reMI's Zijkfijergijok, and D.E.B.S., an action movie spoof about lesbian Catholic school girl secret agents and supervillains. While watching D.E.B.S., this German girl sitting next to me busted out a little mini video camera and started recording it. We were seated in the last row. Two nights later, that girl ended up naked and fucked on screen in a self-directed porno.

Also worth mentioning is The Yes Men's documentary in which, having commandeered the GATT.org website (GATT being the pre-cursor to the WTO) these filmmakers end up getting themselves invited to give a talk as the made up "Dr. Bichlbauer", representative of the WTO, at an international trade conference in Austria -- hilarity ensues.
