SimWar

Another non-gaming use for sim game technology: the Department of Defense is having the developers of the online sim There develop an Earth simulator that is to scale. It will be used to simulate warfare as well as to practice the social interaction skills needed for foreign peacekeeping missions. They've already got Kuwait City up and running. I wonder if it will be open to the public.

How involved will the general population be in future war? If you haven't read e-sheep.com's alternate history of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, The Spiders, I highly recommend it as a legal electronic empathogen. And if ya ain't heard, psychiatrists have finally regained approval to study MDMA in treating post-traumatic stress disorder.
