in America, being a Buddhist means you're an ascetic ex-hippie who gives up meat, excitement, strong emotions, and material possessions in exchange for meditation, crystals, and an irritating sense of smug self-satisfaction: a sort of 'less is more' philosophy.

but in korea, buddhism is something STRAIGHT OUT OF MARVEL COMICS. if someone had told me that buddhists are fifteen foot tall guys in tights that just KICK ASS ALL THE TIME and have goofy facial hair, i would have signed up DECADES ago.
