D-Lysergic Acid Diethylamide 25

Nine successive drawings done at various stages of LSD influence, from 20 minutes to 8 hours after ingestion. Conclusion: tripping may not result in your best work. Other reports (not first-hand, of course) say that it's best to come down first and do your work during the "afterglow" when your mind is still open but your brains are less able to escape.

If I remember correctly, these images come from the book "Spider Communication Mechanisms & Ecological Significance" by Peter N. Witt. On the left is a web spun by a spider misted with LSD and on the right it has been dosed with caffeine. Out of the many different drugs, the spider spins the most perfectly geometrical web under the influence of LSD. The web on the right is your caffeine-fueled college term paper. The connections in the benzedrine web were less random than caffeine but sparser overall, with the chloralhydrat web consisting of just a handful of sad, sad lines, leaving giant gaps for your food to evade capture. [Kids: STAY AWAY FROM CHLORALHYDRAT] The pot web looked like the spider got lazy and mescaline comes very similar to LSD, no big surprise.

Vice is predicting an acid-infused summer of love next year, linking high psychedelic drug availability with high cultural relevance, and have conducted a side by side comparison of cid and shrooms. LSD comes out ahead for "users 18-24, people who watch more TV than they read books, and 'dog people'" although sources from the street tell me it's nowhere to be found anyway. Of course, who really takes anything printed in Vice seriously, and these two anecdotal bonehead accounts should be taken with a grain of ... pure crystalline LSD. On the other hand, one could cross the pond to Edinburgh where the magic fungus is being sold legally. Which may be the better course of action for someone as erudite as myself, a cat person, though just shy of 25. [P.S. Vice: your Toronto store sux.]

Finally, for those of you who were at Betty's the other night: a nice summary on the CIA's MKULTRA project.

Comments

In the experiment with the drawings, I find the patients comments just as interesting as the drawings -- by hour 8 you can really tell he is coming down, a bit depressed and unhappy.

My favorite part: "Upon completing the drawing the patient starts laughing, then becomes startled by something on the floor."

I love the drug induced boasting, "I'll do a drawing in one flourish... without stopping... one line, no break!". He gets the drugy mvp.

the lsd spider webs that i've seen had really sharp corners and were meticulously done. i think you might have the wrong picture there.

Are you looking at the web on the left? Not sure about corners, but the web is meticulous, very consistent and fine-grained. One time late at night we were out in the woods and I saw a web that looked like that and seeing light reflect off it made me think I was staring at a vinyl record.. the space between rings was really small and consistent and the light reflecting gave off a moire-like effect.

Hey how avalable is LSD?

It is an illegal drug with severe punishments for possession or sale. Therefore, you won't see much research done with it anymore. I can't really say how available it is on the street but it seems to be much less so than it was a few years ago, at least according to people I have talked to.

Chloral Hydrate (Hydrate of Chloral, in two work, not one) is actully a general analgesic, thus having no real recreative potential, it's more used as a sleep aid or something similar. For the research I think that the US gov. recently re-allowed the research to be done (or is it on MDMA (ecstasy)).

By the way the 25 in LSD only mean that it was the 25th compound to be synthetised from the ergot, it has no other signification, thus there is no other LSD than the 25 five one, just a note.
