Record Industry May Not Subpoena Online Providers

There is some very promising news on the legal end of the digital front for once. The Times reported that the DC Court of Appeals rejected the RIAAs claim that internet service providers should have to respond to subpoenas for customer information when the RIAA suspects a user of pirating music.

This should really throw a wrench in all the civil cases the RIAA has brought against file sharers over the past year.

Maybe if you're in Canada or the Netherlands or some other country where the courts have legitimized P2P software.
