Israel? Posted by: ryan at December 5, 2003 3:58 PM |

Ahhh, Palestine. Seems that their website is hosted on servers in Israel, but I could be wrong about that. Posted by: ryan at December 5, 2003 4:04 PM |

I can't tell if their /24 network they own is geographically located in Palestine or Israel proper, but the company itself (Earthstationv Ltd, who owns and runs that netblock) have all Palestinian addresses, Jenin refugee camp #23 and Gaza, so they probably are running out of there, though they appear to have to go through Israel. I'm not sure if they're located on non-US shores for the same reasons as Kazaa. I wonder how they "hide" the IP addresses but keep it P2P without multiplying network traffic.. Anyone want to try it out to see? Looks interesting.. and they are anti-spyware as well.. Posted by: agent1073 at December 5, 2003 8:41 PM |

Oh, this is how they describe their company: "Peer to Peer Ebay Web Pages" Posted by: agent1073 at December 5, 2003 8:42 PM |

Israel is responsible for getting internet service to the occupied territories. I think that’s why it looks like they’re in Israel. They’re actually in a West Bank refugee camp. I think there is some sort of legal-loop-hole advantage for them to be in a place our country doesn’t recognize as a country, but I’m not a lawyer. Posted by: brette at December 5, 2003 11:53 PM |

What makes you guys think the server is located in the mid-east? I don't understand. Posted by: jt at December 6, 2003 12:33 AM |

Not that a web address is the best indication of a company's locality, but running trace on earthstation5.com (213.152.100.163) you will find 212.199.218.130.forward.012.net.il at the tail end of the trip. ".il" is reserved for Israel. There are programs that will give you the address of all the major hops between your computer and a destination computer. If you use win2k or xp you can run "cmd" and then type "tracert" and then an address, for instance "tracert earthstation5.com" This will do a trace for you. I don't have much luck with tracert though. Posted by: ryan at December 6, 2003 12:54 AM |

If you follow the route to that netblock, it travels to Europe over Telecom Italia's SEABONE which has POPs in Israel (Tel Aviv and Haifa). It appears to then go through some Israeli isp (can't tell exactly what this company is, wish my Hebrew was actually useful) and then.. who knows. Posted by: agent1073 at December 6, 2003 1:06 AM |

Yar, any pirate worth his weight in hidden treasure travels the high seas via the SEABONE! Posted by: ryan at December 6, 2003 1:15 AM |

Hahaha! YARRR... I think their stance on software piracy is made pretty clear with this statement on their site: ES5 is the first and only peer 2 peer network to openly publicize serial numbers, passwords, and key generators. Why should you pay for a program if you can get it for free? They have several sharewarez for download with cracks included. Posted by: agent1073 at December 6, 2003 1:46 AM |

I was going to guess that they were based in space. That would have been so awesome! Posted by: Y.T. at December 8, 2003 8:30 PM |
