The Invisible Library is a collection of books that only appear in other books. Within the library's catalog you will find imaginary books, pseudobiblia, artifictions, fabled tomes, libris phantastica, and all manner of books unwritten, unread, unpublished, and unfound.

Thats really cool. It reminds me of Huxley's "Ape and Essence". The book starts off with a story about two guys working in Hollywood who find a moviescript after it falls off a truck on its way to the incinerator. It seems the script was rejected, but these two read it and try to track down the author only to find he is dead now. The rest of the book is the moviescript, entitled "Ape and Essence" Posted by: ryan at December 16, 2003 3:26 PM |

Fake books were a big part of Kurt Vonneguts novels, mostly penned by the somewhat biographical character of Kilgore Trout, a prolific science fiction writer whose stories often ended up between pages of naked beavers. One interesting note about Trout is that there is actually a real book published under his name. This book has the characteristics of the various books KVJ attributes to Trout, but is in fact not written by KVJ himself. P.S. Ape and Essence, good book. The book was "Venus on the Half-shell" which was originally mentioned in "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater". It's there on that list, but with the note: "See also: Oddities". Posted by: agent1073 at December 16, 2003 5:11 PM |

I wish some of those Kilgore Trout books were actually written. The plots were always so absurd they sounded excellent. Posted by: ryan at December 16, 2003 6:30 PM |
