dude, speaking of aircraft, can you believe they're doing away with the concord? not replacing it with something else, not cutting down on the number of flights, but completely PHASING IT OUT. i was thinking today, and i will literally have a better chance of riding on a space shuttle than taking the good old concord on a loud, overpriced, transatlantic flight. creepy. the concord was obselete on it's first flight. first, the fuel is different from every other fleet on the planet. it had to be a special mixture ordered specifically from a single manufacturer. second, it had a small amount of seats which could not even cover the fuel cost. and lastly, it's superiority was overstated. while it could travel something like mach 1.4 or something, it rarely did. it's cruising speed was normally the same or even below that of most commercial flyers. it was an experiment and ambition of one or two industrialists in europe. there was a reason boeing dropped out of the bidding war to make the concord. they knew it was unrealistic. still, it was pretty cool. but too damn expensive to operate.
